trekking along tracks

Here's the cover to an eBook written by Hermien Van Den Bergh that I completed not long ago - Trackeroo and the Crew!

It's a lovely story for young readers that will leave you breathless with excitement and innovation. Set in the African tableau, it features a colourful cast on an epic secret quest.

But of course inky, evil nightmares are never far behind behind….

The book is currently on promotion, check it out on Amazon and get your free copy!

Toko's back...

It's been a while since I've posted about this little gecko fella! Here's a quick look at the 5th installment of the activity book which features Toko, the intrepid gecko...

Some of the interior pages, and I must say that designing these games is a 12 year old's dream come true :)

Action Gecko - the sequel

I was asked to illustrate the follow up to the 'Summer Fun' activity book I did last year, let's call it: Winter Fun! (actually it was called: My Holiday, but I like mine better)
A night-time variant of the cover and below are some of the pages from the book...

Winter here falls over June - August, which meant over the World Cup, so we couldn't stay away from using some soccer themes....
As with the first, I had tons of fun drawing and making up some of the games; the pages were wonderfully designed by the good people at 8 Ink Media, I think it all oozes fun!

faux covers

In a moment of inspiration, I decided to produce a bunch of covers to shop around to get more cover work...

These are some of them:

Everything is made-up, from the authors' names to the publisher, so don't bother trying to find them ;)

Savannah 2116 AD

And speaking of covers....
Here's another one I did for Tafelberg a few years back, I used the same model from the Moon Bride kid's story I posted not long ago, remember her?
This is actually my first credited book cover and I kinda threw everything at it (at the time) but looking back, it still holds up well.
I also created the typography of the 'Savannah', there's a special place in my heart for typographical design...

Action gecko

That end-of-year-crunch is back, being that time of year, and whoo-boy it's been a doozy and it's not even that close to the actual 'end' of year.... oh dear...

Anyway, while I'm up for breath and snacks I thought an update would be nice...
One of the projects I've been working on is an activity book for kids; but don't be decieved, this cute gecko character's been one tough little critter (23 pages in 2 weeks tough) This is the cover in it's various stages...
pencils and inks, for this particular job I didn't have time to use graphite pencils over the blue ones, it was direct to ink which is sometimes quite therapeutic.

Covers

I like sharks, all the bad publicity they've been getting since 'Jaws' is a real shame.
Still, they are pretty scary and I was happy to draw them when Tom asked me to do the cover for the first issue Semiotic Cohesion a while back...
(This isn't the final cover, I changed the shuttle to a more recognisable angle)

My delight doubled when, last year, he asked me to draw issue 5's cover! Rarely does a drawing exude this much fun from end to end, what a pleasure!
