together
That's right, another collage!
I did mention that there was a time I was doing lots of these for Nasou, right?
It's nice looking back at these now with fresh eyes… this particular piece was about leadership and building one's country together.
It really is an interesting and fun technique to use, a bit like film editing, y'know?

balance
In life, as in all things, one needs to find balance…
This is a collage illustration I did for Nasou Via Afrika's Life Orientation schoolbooks. It's been a great medium to explore. At times frustrating but when things click into place the results are, more often than not, very rewarding!
Best of all is how subtle it can be, symbols and meaning can be found which is both engineered and serendipitous :)

life orientation
I've been working with collages quite a lot the last couple of years, mostly for educational illustrations and covers. This is the largest one I did, for the interior of a Life Orientation book, the concept was to have 4 illustrations that could fit into one greater whole.
So this is in fact the entire piece, if you chop it up into quarters each would have been a separate entity in the printed book (though the bottom pieces were rotated to look "upright") .
The subject lends itself very well to the medium and I was able to quite literally throw the kitchen sink in there!

reach!
It’s incredible how two weeks can shoot by, isn’t it?
I’ve been kept very busy by another swell in the demand for illustrations for school books.
I’ll do my best to stay regular but things could get sketchy (‘scuse the bad pun)
Anyway, enough ramble, here is a triptych from the last wave of work for school books.
This was stepping out of my comfort zone but it worked out pretty well, I really enjoyed the process of working in collage and look forward to doing more!
